The meeting opened with warm welcome addresses from Rector of ANAU Hrachya Zakoyan, Rector of SNAU Ihor Kovalenko, and Project coordinator Garegin Hambardzumyan. They emphasized the importance of international cooperation in promoting sustainable aquaculture and fishery education, aligning with the European Green Deal and supporting the development of eco-friendly food systems in the region. The meeting brought together representatives of universities from Ukraine, Armenia, and the EU, as well as stakeholders from the agricultural and fisheries sectors. The participants discussed: ▪️ the achievements of university teams and the results of project implementation; ▪️ modern approaches to improving the quality of education and research; ▪️ experiences of cooperation with business and governmental institutions in aquaculture and fisheries; ▪️ prospects for sustainable development and integration into the European educational and research space. From sample analysis to species conservation, the lab’s high-tech instruments are already contributing to major ecological studies aimed at safeguarding Armenia’s freshwater biodiversity. On 25 April 2025, a guest lecture was held for the Ukrainian partners, in particular at NUWEE, with Assoc. Prof. Gayane Marmaryan, PhD, from the Department of Biosciences and General Chemistry at the Armenian National Agrarian University. Assoc. Prof. Marmaryan, who is also involved in the AFISHE project as an expert and researcher, provided valuable insights into the best practises in the field during the lecture and discussion. The event was attended by 40 teachers and students from NUWEE, Sumy National Agrarian University, Bila Tserkva National Agrarian University, Ukrainian National Forestry University and Drohobych State Pedagogical University. This initiative aims to explore the cultivation of this species under artificial conditions, develop efficient husbandry techniques, and improve methods for population restoration. Established with funding from the international AFISHE Erasmus+ project, the Aquaculture Laboratory is equipped with cutting-edge technology for research on freshwater fish and crustaceans. During these three days, the partners gathered at the Rectorate of the University to discuss the progress of each work package and agree on the next steps for AFISHE, which will be completed by the end of 2025. The group had the opportunity to visit CIIMAR (Interdisciplinary Centre of Marine and Environmental Research), a U.Porto facility whose aim is to assess the impact of human activities and develop strategies to address global environmental change.
