Recently, Master’s student Arsen Safaryan has been conducting an important investigation on the water quality of different fisheries. His work focuses on assessing key ecological indicators that influence fish health, productivity, and overall aquatic ecosystem sustainability. These indicators include: oxygen level, pH, conduction, concentration of different ions, temperature and so on. This research not only provides valuable insights for Armenia’s aquaculture development but also highlights the importance of applying modern scientific approaches in ensuring food security and environmental protection. We are proud to see young scientists like Arsen making impactful contributions through the opportunities provided by AFISHE Lab at ANAU![/vc_column_text][vc_separator type="normal" up="30" transparency="1"][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css_animation="" row_type="row" use_row_as_full_screen_section="no" type="full_width" angled_section="no" text_align="left" background_image_as_pattern="without_pattern"][vc_column][vc_separator type="normal" up="30" transparency="1"][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css_animation="" row_type="row" use_row_as_full_screen_section="no" type="full_width" angled_section="no" text_align="left" background_image_as_pattern="without_pattern"][vc_column][vc_gallery type="image_grid"...

From sample analysis to species conservation, the lab’s high-tech instruments are already contributing to major ecological studies aimed at safeguarding Armenia’s freshwater biodiversity. Thanks to support from national agencies and international partners, including the CNF and Rufford Foundation, the AFISHE lab is central to several critical research initiatives, such as: Assessment of fish and crayfish stocks in the Lake Sevan basin (RA Environment Ministry) Evaluation of optimal water level for fish diversity in Arpi Lake (CNF grant project) Development of a restoration strategy for the endemic Salmo ischchan (Sevan trout) (Rufford Small Grant) ...

The visit offered students an immersive introduction to AFISHE’s state-of-the-art research infrastructure and a closer look at both current and prospective scientific initiatives. The internship program was designed to bridge theoretical instruction with real-world scientific exploration — a critical element in shaping competent and confident future specialists. A key highlight of the visit was a comprehensive presentation delivered by Dr. Bardukh Gabrielyan, Chief Researcher at the Ichthyology Laboratory of the Scientific Center for Zoology and Hydroecology, National Academy of Sciences of Armenia. Dr. Gabrielyan shared in-depth insights into the objectives, achievements, and ongoing activities of various projects, while also shedding light on the...
