19 Feb Training programme at U.PORTO
February 19th and March 1st 2024
The 16 Armenian and Ukrainian teachers carried out two weeks of training in Portugal, in order to ensure, in the Master’s Degrees to be developed in their countries, specialized teaching and the establishment of new study and research laboratories to support aquaculture and fisheries.
The training was planned by the representatives of the U.Porto, Professors Augusto Faustino, Paulo Vaz-Pires and José Fernando Gonçalves, from ICBAS – Abel Salazar Institute of Biomedical Sciences, where the training sessions took place, and included technical visits to various entities related to aquaculture and fisheries: the Sealife Porto aquarium, the Interdisciplinary Centre for Marine and Environmental Research (CIIMAR) of the U.Porto, the company Docapesca Portos e Lotas SA, canning factory Pinhais, the flatfish aquaculture facility Flatlantic in Mira and the Litoral Station of Aguda – ELA, in Gaia.
The training was carried out in 14 different modules: Animal Welfare in Aquaculture and Public Aquariums, Aquaculture of Artificial and Natural Reservoirs, Aquaculture Processing Technology, Feeding and Nutrition of Aquatic Animals, Basic Aquaculture Engineering, Bioresources of the Hydrosphere and Its Use, Environmental and Water Management, Sanitary Control of Fishery Products, Standardization and Certification, Food Technology and Nutrition, General Hydrobiology, General Hydroecology, Ornamental Aquaculture, Population Ecology and Water Quality and Fish Health. There was also a module, on e-learning skills, for all participants. These modules were given by 20 trainers from ICBAS, FCUP, CIIMAR, i3S, Sealife, ELA, the fish farm Quinta do Salmão and the Rectory of the University of Porto.
