12 Jul AFISHE Working Group Visited “Sevani Ishkhan” Fish Breeding Enterprise
On 11 July, the AFISHE working group of the International Scientific and Educational Center of NAS RA, the Armenian National Agrarian University and the Scientific Center of Zoology and Hydroecology of NAS RA visited the fish farm “Sevani Ishkhan” CJSC in the village of Karchaghbyur, Gegharkunik region. The aim of the visit was to get acquainted with the possibilities for planning and conducting research and practical learning for students enrolled in the joint Master’s programme “Fish Farming” from the academic year 2024-2025.
It should be mentioned that “Sevani Ishkhan” CJSC is the only facility in the region that uses brand new processing technologies, produces a wide range of fish products and is engaged in the reproduction of the endemic fish species Sevan trout.
The working group was very impressed by the current capacities of the fish farm “Sevani Ishkhan”. There they learnt about the entire cycle of production and breeding of small fish and how the natural reproduction of the indigenous subspecies of the Sevan trout is ensured. This huge fish farm, which is involved in localising the global experience of sustainable and organic fish farming, as well as localising the certification of fish products and the development of aquatic animal and plant breeding and processing branches in Armenia, will serve as the best research platform and learning hub for students to receive an education through the use of cutting-edge technologies and scientific experience, conduct scientific research in the field of fish farming and keep abreast of the latest advances in the industry.
